FoodSpy is owned and operated by ORYX Pty Ltd, an Australian company, which is the data controller for personal information collected through FoodSpy. Our ABN is 70 675 046 812.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account details — your name and email address when you create a FoodSpy account.
- Profile settings — health conditions, allergies, diets and goals you choose to set in your profile. This includes health-related information you provide voluntarily to personalise your scores.
- Barcode scan data — the barcodes you scan or enter, and the associated product information, including your scan history.
- Camera access — we request access to your camera solely for scanning barcodes. Images are processed on your device to read the barcode and are not stored by us.
- Usage information — limited, aggregated analytics about how the app is used and technical data such as device type and app version, used to keep the service reliable.
- Payment information — if you subscribe to a paid plan, payment details are processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store your full card details.
3. How we use your information
- To operate your FoodSpy account and provide the personalised scoring service.
- To calculate and display personalised food scores based on your profile settings.
- To maintain your scan history so you can review products you have scanned.
- To provide customer support and respond to your enquiries.
- To improve the app, fix issues, and keep the service secure.
- To process payments and manage subscriptions.
- To send service-related communications (we do not sell your data, and we do not send marketing communications without your consent).
4. Legal basis and Australian privacy law
We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APP) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Where we process health-related information, we do so only to provide the personalised service you have asked for, and only with appropriate safeguards.

We do not sell your personal information. We disclose it only:
- to service providers who help us operate the service (such as hosting and payment providers), who are bound by confidentiality obligations;
- where required or authorised by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of users or the public; or

FoodSpy uses publicly available product data from sources such as Open Food Facts to identify scanned products. Information you post publicly through the app (such as product reviews) may be visible to other users.

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit, to protect your personal information. We retain your information only for as long as needed to provide the service, comply with our legal obligations, and resolve disputes. You can delete your account and associated data at any time.

8. Children
FoodSpy is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
